Hastings Boys’ High – English & Mathematics Learning Block
Sector: Education
Location: Hastings
Status: Completed 2024
Size: 1001m²
Hastings Boys High School is one of the oldest in the region, dating back to 1904, originally as a co-education facility, then designated to a Boy’s school in 1955.
The two level Tier block from the 70’s required demolition. Our master plan sought to accomplish key links between the modern curriculum, where the subject of English would benefit from closer relations to the library and the Mathematics with closer co-locations to technology.

The location of the new building is co-located adjacent and physically connected to the existing library and technology block, creating a circular and co-dependent learning space that serves English and Mathematic subjects.
Interior spaces are flexible to operate as singular rooms or open to cater for 2 or 3 space equivalent shared learning spaces. The new building also sought to interpret a modern but sympathetic character with terracotta colonnade and veranda. This veranda serves as an edge to the cricket fields and provides seating, shade and protection.
